Where is my community

In a house full for Shivah
An uncle marvels at family.
Indeed, we braved icy roads
to lay to rest my father's mother's sister's son's wife's mother.
"The Jews are amazing people" my grandfather says
and I wonder if he realizes that his granddaughter was not brought up that way
but rather raise and shaped and embraced by other communities
a rural community
a creative community
a political community
communities of good people
people who make her who she is
and people she embraces for their feelings, actions and ideas,
not their ideology.
Perhaps Jews are amazing people
and so are farmers
and teachers
and photographers
and Christians
and Pagans...
Do not segregate that way grandfather
or you may lose some of your own blood
(fortunately for him, he raised children ready to weigh and argue,
a trait far more heritable than religion).
