In an auditorium where I'm the youngest by at least a dozen years,
a voice that's been singing of politics for four times as long continues to raise the same crowd
a little slower perhaps, there are more hip replacements than there used to be,
but their spirits still shine.
They call out as though they know her
and they do
and she them, at least in mindset.
A few of the voices keep talking
constantly demanding to be heard
and part of me wishes they would be quiet
so that the voice we came to hear could sing.
But those babyboomers,
those protesters and flower bearers
those barefoot hippies who still wear birkenstocks to their high power lawyer jobs,
they just don't know when they're suppose to keep quiet.
Thank god.
