Where does your food come from?

Ah Thanksgiving.
A day spent tending the turkey, doing recipe math equations, and shooing people out of the kitchen.
Oh and don't forget my mom chasing my cousin around with the turkey's heart.
"No, look Clay. Look at the arteries! No cholesterol!"

A cattle truck on I-75
taking animals that grew up in cages to the slaughter house.

A pick up truck on a rural road
two proud men in the cab and a deer plucked from the woods in the back
headed home to be butchered in the garage.

Death at the hands of another is still a death
but a life oppressed by the hands of another,
no opportunity to fight,
no opportunity to be acknowledged as a once-living creature by those who benefit,
you tell me which is more disconcerting.
